Oh god, I was right! Matt and Clare are on their way back from a flying Cannes visit to meet with our sales agent and see the poster in all its glory in their booth. I’ve c+p’d this from earlier in my blog because I can’t reblog myself…that thinks I might be in Cannes next year with a film?
Yes.
At first I thought the local radio station’s following a Chris Brown song with a Rihanna song was in poor taste. Then I realized the two songs were “International Love” and “Only Girl in the World,” respectively, and thought maybe they were going for some kind of commentary on how the two aren’t…
Gods, how often do I wish this was true at work and that putting Chris Brown and Rihanna songs next to each other was some kind of statement. Unfortunately, I can tell Tumblr now, the people who do the music schedules for the places where I work don’t care and will even say things like ‘I’m sure she provoked him’ in the office. Sad but true.
• Use the hand you write with.
• Make a fist with your thumb outside, not tucked inside. If it’s tucked inside your fist, when you punch someone, you might break your thumb. The thumb goes across your fingers, not on the side.
• Don’t be like in the movies—don’t aim for the face. Face punches don’t usually stop people, and you can miss when they duck their head or break your hand on their jaw. If you want to get away quickly, or end a fight, aim for the chest, or the ribs. If you really want to do some damage, e.g., you’re being attacked, aim for the throat, which will make it hard for your attacker to breathe for a hot minute.
• When you punch, you want to aim and hit with your first two knuckles. Not the flats of your fingers, and not your ring or pinky knuckles, which can break more easily. You can use your weight, if you’re on your feet, to add wallop, and spring into a punch with your feet and torso.
Useful information, esp. if you haven’t taken self defense.
Also, what I learned from my dad when I was a littl’un: Don’t just use your arm muscles, but throw your shoulder into it, so you get some extra swing.
BAM!
Um… don’t? I mean, don’t throw a punch, especially if you don’t already know how to. The middle of a fight is not the best time/place to start practicing. I know how to throw a punch and have been throwing them for 5 years and I still probably wouldn’t. As Captain Mal Reynolds says ‘Never hit a man with a closed fist’.
On the other hand, eye gouges, earring pulling, finger breaks and ball shots are all good substitutes. As well as hitting them with a chair and running the fuck away.
Matt says I should also tell you to go to a boxing gym and a BJJ or judo class.
I’m at work right now ingesting music videos and programmes for transmission and it’s difficult to put into words the feeling I get from the constant stream of fetishized/objectified/fragmented/half naked female bodies.
Sometimes there is literally no break in it - the women are all shot and lit and dressed in this one very specific manner (mouths open, butts stuck out, cleveage up, legs out, the camera always just above eyeline to give an impression of submission, a cheeky look over a shoulder or a look of orgasm on the face). It then gets thrown into stark relief when a male and female artist are in the same video (Rita Ora featuring Tinie Tempah is the most egregious current example). The men are always fully dressed, shot in commanding profile or at least a wide. They’re never writhing over the bonnet of a car, flashing their arses to camera or dangling jewellry from their half-opened, red lipsticked mouths.
I have no problem with women using their sexuality in performance and I really don’t want to sound like I’m slut-shaming. Just a bit of fucking variety would do.
I have a fairly healthy body image but 12 hours of the above can reduce me almost to tears.
Again, a post that makes no real sense. I just have a lot of feelings.

love her so much
This video has been getting major play in the UK (I think it went Top 10 in the charts). My favourite memory from work recently has been watching this video play at about 7am on a Tuesday morning while I’m on a transmission shift and realising that the blanked word at the beginning is ‘cunt’. And then hunting down the rest of the lyrics and delightedly playing the uncensored version for my husband when I got home.
There’s been a furore surrounding sexualised images of women in music videos in the UK for a while (the company I freelance for even got door-stepped by a BBC documentary on the issue). I think it’s a discussion worth having - nothing wears down my self-esteem more than a 12 hour shift of watching Jennifer Lopez, Katy Perry, Jessie J, Beyonce and Lady Gaga writhe around in their underwear looking impossibly perfect.
But then this track, with its graphic descriptions of lesbian cunnilingus, plays merrily before 9 o’clock in the morning and it makes me feel like some good is in the world again. Thank you, Azealia.
Ugh I’m so bad at the Internet - this is an amazing thing and not bad at all! The 80s music is also appreciated :DWhen you look at your dashboard on your phone at work and mohawkcub keeps posting pictures of naked men with erections but you don’t want to unfollow because he also posts great stuff about language that really brightens up your day and he’s one of the only European blogs you follow so he posts in your timezone
I try to remember to tag them as nsfw, but I guess stuff like tumblrsavior doesn’t work on phones :/
But I also posted lots of horrible 80s music today! So, um, there!

Um…so this is the signed off trailer for Gangsters, Guns and Zombies. I co-wrote, invested and 1st Ad’d this last year and it has just been sold worldwide!
Coming to reputable DVD retailers very soon.
I have returned! With shorter hair, bigger eye-bags and a goddamn brown belt to my name.
I managed to survive this week with half as many hours slept as worked (is that a sentence? I can’t read anymore) and pass my brown belt grading as well.
Now it’s on to bigger and better things - a new film (recces next week!) and a black belt to start training for.
Oh, and did I mention we got QC sign off on GGZ and the trailer has been approved? That unicorn money might well be on its way…
